He passed peacefully on September 2, 2025 in his room at The Grande Assisted Living where he resided for the past four years. His sons, Robert and Thomas were by his side.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Sophia Jean Meier and his sister, Patricia Ann Meier.
He is survived by his four children, Linda, James P., Robert, and Thomas along with seven grandchildren, Christopher, Royce, James, Drew, Colin, Jake and Jennifer.
Jim was born in Tampa, FL where he attended Roosevelt Elementary and Woodrow Wilson Intermediate School. He graduated from H. B. Plant High School where he was a member of the golf team. After two years at the University of Florida, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS President Jackson, APA-18. He made several cruises between San Francisco, Alaska and Pearl Harbor. After his service he returned to Tampa and joined the sales team of Florida Electric Supply Wholesalers, a company founded by his father and two partners. After the business was sold he was hired as District Manager of Klein Tools, Inc. His territory ranged from New Orleans, LA. to Key West, FL. His district often led the company in sales. He retired after 25 successful years to spend time on his land in Spring Lake. Before and during retirement, Jim enjoyed maintaining his property. He got pleasure from mowing the pasture, sawing down trees and repairing fences. He enjoyed dominos and fellowship at the Spring Lake Community Center where he served on the board of directors. He was also active at his church, Faith Presbyterian, where he was one of the original members.
Jim’s final years were spent at The Grande where he learned to play Bridge, and introduced others to dominos. He was usually available to assist fellow residents with short trips around town. He enjoyed doing what he could to help others. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of The Grande and HPH Hospice for the compassionate care provided in his final weeks.
A Memorial Service will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, 200 Mt. Fair Avenue, Brooksville, FL on September 27, 2025 at 11:00am.
