

WERNICKE, James E., age 76 of Corbin, KY, died February 28, 2012 at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, KY. He was born in Brooksville, FL and moved to Kentucky about 10 years ago. He graduated from Hernando High School in 1953 and was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran who was awarded the 3rd Bronze Star on the Good Conduct medal. His family owned Wernicke Brothers Dairy, one of the first dairies in the county during the 1930’s and later owned A-1 Roofing and was a member of the VFW, all in Brooksville, FL. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Gladys and sister, Jean Bell. He is survived by his wife: Nannie Wernicke of Corbin, KY; sons and daughter-in-law: Edwin Ray and Julie Wernicke of Inverness, FL; Paul Wernicke of Brooksville, FL; daughters and sons-in-law: Michelle and Ernie Wernicke Hutman; Quana and Jason Wernicke Sims, all of Brooksville, FL; nephew: George Reddman of Brooksville, FL; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation for friends will be 10am-12pm, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 1pm at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
