Born on December 6, 1937, in Middletown, Ohio, Jerry built a life marked by deep love for his family and an unmatched drive to succeed. On August 13, 1956, he married the love of his life, Sue Cole. Together, they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage and built a life rooted in heard work, faith and family.
Jerry began his career in pest control after moving to Florida, first working with Orkin Pest Control and later serving as Vice President at Arab Pest Control. In 1983, he and Sue took a leap of faith and founded their own company, S&W Cole Inc., which grew into a successful family business. Jerry was known as a determined leader who took charge, did things his way, and built a respected name in his field through persistence and passion.
Outside of work, Jerry loved playing golf, spending time in the mountains of Highlands, North Carolina, and being deeply involved in the lives of his grandchildren, whom he adored. In his later years, he especially enjoyed his morning routine at Roosters, where he shared good food, stories, and laughter with friends.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Wendy Sue Lanning, and her husband David; his grandchildren, Taylor Woodall (Drew) and Cole Lanning (Katie); and his brother-in-law, Lavelle Strickland. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Cole.
A Homegoing Service to honor Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 10:00am at Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church (1661 W Jefferson St, Brooksville, FL 34601). A lunch reception will be held in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. Arrangements are being handled by Merritt Funeral Home.
Jerry will be remembered as a strong-willed leader who took charge, built a successful life on his terms, and made family a constant part of his world.
