

PORTER, John B., age 78 of Brooksville, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Bayfront Health Brooksville. Born in Manhattan, NY, he resided in New Jersey where he met and married his wife, Carole. They moved to Brooksville over 50 years ago from St. Petersburg. He retired from the Hernando County Public School System and was the owner of Porter Racing Stables, LLC. John was a member of the National Thoroughbred Racing Associating, Delaware Thoroughbred Horseman’s Association, Florida Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Lykes Memorial Hospital, serving over a decade. He was founder and very active with JC III Camp, taking in many children that he thought of as his own.
Survivors include his wife: Carole; son & daughter-in-law: Thomas Andrew “Drew” & Tina Porter of Brooksville; daughter & son-in-law: Tracy & Randy Nunley of Elkton, Maryland; grandchildren: Whitney Porter, Taven Nunley and Keely Nunley.
Memorial services will be conducted 1:00pm, Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel, where his children, Tracy and Drew, will celebrate his life.
