To John best know as "Pops"I know that you are now in your final place  and are painfree. I will remember you by too many things to list. But some where: riding in our golf carts, eating out together at some gteat places, spending time in the pool, going to watch the races with Richie, and best of all you staying in our RV with Peaches & our Chiwawas and going to eat breakfast @ Mama Sallys. We spent alot of quality time together over the years and that time I will never be forgotton. There wont be another "Pops" like you. Dear Uncle John:At age 50, I can only remember the past 42 (that’s all!!) years of you in my life.  My oldest and fondest memory is from Wilmington, MA and the Bronco; how you would pack all us kids in it and drive crazy over the sand dunes….that was so much fun!  And the day Aunty Winnie, Nana Winnie and my mother were baking pies in the kitchen and the realtor called to show your house (you were selling it)…the women threw all the pies in the cabinets and somehow got rid of all us kids.  And what the hell was that stink….young Johnny’s sneakers!  And here was the home where I had my audience for my “hoochy coochy” dances.  My next fond memory was from your Burlington home when you, Aunty Winnie (my other Mom) and all your kids were heading north to NH to the White Mountains and you took my brother and I with you.  All my mother could give us for spending money was $2 each, but you and Aunty Winnie didn’t care…you took us anyways.  What’s another 2 mouths to feed when you’re already feeding 8 right??!!  I think we all piled in another one of your vehicles (you had a new one just about every week!) and off we went.  Santa’s Village, Story Land, Polar Caves, etc.  I remember stopping at the rest stops and grabbing every park brochure we could get our hands on.  What a mess we made with those in the back of the truck.  Christmas at your Burlington house….my brother got a minibike (just like your boys – yellow with black pinstriping and their names on them) and I got a 3-speed peddle bike…somehow I don’t think that was very fair!!  I was such a selfish little brat!  Another memory was at King’s & Queen’s Campground.  All us kids got in trouble for doing something (to this day I still don’t know what we did that was so bad) and had to line up for one of your spankings.  I think you went a little easier on my brother and I.  Nowadays DSS would be called.  How times have changed.  Plastow NH house you let Sissy and I beat each other up…then you stuck my head under the couch.  LMAO now, but it wasn’t so funny then.  Billerica house; how proud you were to own one of the first microwave ovens amazed at what it could do to a bread roll!  The time I asked you:  “Why did you sell the gas station (in Woburn)?”  And your answer was “Aren’t I in a better mood now that I don’t own it?”  I didn’t dare say….”No”!  And, “How come us kids have to eat pizza for dinner and you get to have a steak and cheese sub”?  How about the very late night 2 boys followed my friend Debbie and I from a club in Lowell…they wouldn’t leave us alone so I had Debbie pull into your driveway…my Aunty Winnie was sitting in the breezeway/her sewing room making all the dresses for Sissy’s wedding and you were so mad that I didn’t knock on the door for help.  Those 2 jerks followed us all the way to Woburn until we could flag down a cop for help.  The day Sissy and Joe got married.  Their wedding was late in the day and you insisted that she not be out driving on her wedding day, but she and I had to go over to Claire and Bob Upton’s house for something important.  Then you were moving to Florida.  You, Aunty Winnie, Marion and Holly came to our house (in an RV I think) the night before so that my Mom could spend the last day with her sister.  We were sitting at the dining room table.  You knew things weren’t good between my Mom and I and you told me to go pack my things and come to Florida.  I didn’t go with you then, but shortly after I sold my car, packed my stuff and flew to Florida.  You picked me up at the airport…thank you!  I spent the first couple of weeks driving around in your new car (of which I ran out of gas twice and you came to rescue me…you were pissed!) looking for a job and at night I would take dictation for you…WTH…for what I can’t remember.  You were trying to buy that little motel and you spent a lot of time there learning the business.  You never did buy it.  I moved back home not long after.  Many years went by that I did not see you.  Then one day while you were home here in Mass staying at Sissy’s house, I invited you up to my house.  You walked in and immediately went up to my family room and just sat there in awe.  I had come a long way since the days in Florida huh!  I think you said you would be happy just living in that room alone, never mind the rest of the house.  That was a great memory and still makes me smile when I think about it.I’m sorry I didn’t get to spend any more time with you after that day.  I’m sorry that you were so ill and basically alone.  I’m happy that Holly was able to be there to help you.  And lastly, I’m proud that your daughter Sissy was able to be there with you, alone, for the last few hours of your life.  Hugs and kisses to your son John, our beautiful Marion, and please hug my Mom for me.  I miss her so much, but so grateful to have her sister/my Aunty Winnie in my life; the woman that encourages me every moment that I am blessed to speak with her.Love, your niece Michelle

John, I cant tell you how much you will be missed.  You have been a bright part of my life from going to church with your family when you were a Deacon at Father Diorio's in Worcester, taking the kids to your house for all those memorable dinners, and the times we spent together in Florida.  You have always been there for me and i'll never forget it.  Say hi to Tony, your mom, Freddy and your favorite aunt Eleanor for me.  Love you always, Millie and Myke

wow what to say i still look over on the porch for u ever day a year ago in april you was the first friend i made in fl and being a country girl from nc i could have not found a better one when my husband and i come down here to look for a place to live we new the day we found this house was it not knowing that the little church we had passed early in the day that we thought would be neat to go to would say it all we talked and then we went out to lunch with u guys and you took us to show us your church and it was the same one so we knew this was the place for us and then we got here on june 1 and it was great well except when we would get in trouble from pat for eating out lol and wrecking the car but it was fun and the trip to tampa with no ac oh my i did love talking to you so much u gave me allot of my dad and i just hate you left so soon but u no i told u that i would be mad too because u get to meet god before me but the time i love the most was to no god was your savior and i no where u r and that i will see you again one day and peaches still smells the food here and catches lizards you will always have a spot on my heart ....... tom ,fran and lacey,and jojo and my mom

Grandpa, Well where do I start? Like so many before me have said, your kinda a pain in the ass. Even while you are gone! Im finding this harder to write then originally anticipated. I just wanted to say that this world could use alot more kinda people like you. You were the hardest worker Ive ever seen or had the "pleasure" of working with. You and my father definately had a certain way of bringing out the best in people. You were a hard ass, but you also had a softer side like taking all your grandkids to disneyworld two or three times a year or letting me drive the motor home when I was like five years old. Or pulling my dads truck outta the crystal river with your back-hoe. So all in all, I would say you were a great man who did alot for other people. Grandpa I love you, and say WHASSUUUPPP!!! To my father for me.

Well this day has come to all of us You are with your children that already passed. those that you have left behind hope and pray that you are with them and have peace. You where a good provider and father by chance. Our family drifted apart over the years but the ones that really mattered where there for you in the end. You where blessed to have my sisters there with you Sissy and Holly and brother in law Joe. they are amazing people and have dealt with so much since you left. Just know that you where loved  you may have not been understood but that does not matter now. Have peace dad, I know I do now. Til we meet on the other side. Blood is thicker than water and the powers side was there when you passed...

Dear Papa,I will NEVER forget you, and I will miss you every day until we are reunited again. I will always cherish the memories we have made together. So many fun times when all us kids came and saw you in Florida as we grew up and you coming up north to see us. You were always so good to us, spoiling us with trips to Disney World, and always having to take us out for breakfast or dinner. I remember when you came up north one time and you rented a little white convertible mazda miata. Julie and I were prouder then a peacock riding in it with you. You took us to an RV dealership and let us run rampid in and out of all the new trailers they were selling, with dirty shoes and all. :)It saddens me to know how long you were suffering, and I wish more than anything that I could've been there to help you through such a hard time. I would've done anything to help you be more comfortable. I wish you had lived closer or vice versa, I would've visited you everyday. My Michael only had the pleasure of meeting you once, but he still talks about his Papa Bulldozer, and everytime I see him playing with the Hess trucks you bought him it puts a smile on my face.I still can't believe you are gone, I think of you all the time. I know you are in a better place, and not in anymore pain, but selfishly I wish you were still here so I could hear your voice one more time, and tell you how much I Love You. I know you are with Uncle JJ and Auntie Marion, and that makes me happy. I am very glad that Auntie Holly, and mom and dad were able to be there with you. As hard as it must've been to see you in that condition, I'm sure it gives them peace to know they were there with you and that you weren't alone.I couldn't have asked for a better grandfather, I have always adored you, and I always will. I will be delivering your great grandson Hunter any day now, and wish more than anything that he was able to meet you, but I will forever tell my boys how special you were to me, and your memory will always live on. Pops I will never forget a day that we were able to spend, wether it be hanging out in your sun room eating cherries, strolling epcot or enjoying a race together (ISMA's of course!).  You were many miles away but always there when we needed you.  You never did like goodbyes.  I'm very fortunate to have loving, caring, compassionate parents that were with you when you most needed them.  I know the last few months of your life here on earth were torture but you are at peace now watching us all. I love you and miss you. Mary, "the big guy" Matt and kids.

John was my oldest brother and I am sure that if our mother had not passed away from cancer, John would have continued to protect me from all the “bad kids” in the neighborhood. Because of our great loss, and those things that tore families apart, in those olden days that were the days when our mother died, John and I lost touch. We would be apart for 21 years until God allowed us to connect again. I was living in New York City at that time, and after many attempts at finding my oldest brother, just hit the right phone number. That night, John drove down from his home in Billerica, MA to NYC where I lived. Then he drove me back to his house to be reunited with my five brothers and my sister.  I also met his first wife and their wonderful children. How pleased I was when John took the time to fly up from Florida to attend my wedding in MA. Recently, after a long phone conversation, I learned that he loved the same TV shows I do, and adored his dog peaches like a grandchild. His children who reside in New England all have their memories of this bigger than life guy. My heart goes out to all who love John...God bless

Dear Winnie, Bob and I were very sorry to hear of John's passing. He suffered a lot in the end but now he is with the 2 children that went before him. We remember the great pool parties and cookouts you and he had at your home in Mass. When all the families got together, there were a lot of laughs and great memories. No one can ever take that away. We were also reminiscing about the many prayer meetings and healing services we went to with the two of you. Those were the days. Very happy times. Dear Joe (Chickey), Sissy, Heidi and Holly, Our deepest sympathy goes out to you for the loss of your Dad. Bob & I love you and pray for God to comfort all of you. I will always remember the Christmas Eve here in my home with your Dad and your brother Johnney. We had such a wonderful time. We got to play with his new grandchild. We laughed and he and Johnney talked about old times with you guys. Your Dad loved my lasagna. Remember him wanting me to go to Florida and make his lasagna when he wanted it. We laughed for hours over that one. He was a funny guy I can still hear his laughter. He is with Marian and John now looking down on you all. Keep your memories alive. Hi Pat,I can’t imagine how difficult your life has been these past 11 years.  John was sick for a very long time and the fact that he lived this long is due to the care you provided.  When he wanted to eat, you cooked.  When he needed a special diet, you provided it.  You were always at the hospital filling all his needs.  Whatever he wanted, he got.  He could be pretty demanding at times but you stood by him to the end.  If it hadn’t been for you, he’d never have made it this long.  I hope his family appreciates all you’ve done because long distance caring is often impossible as in John’s case.  It’s good, though, that his kids were able to be there for the last few hours of his life.  I don’t know how you did all the things necessary to keep him alive.  Having to deal with gangrine wounds and learning to do dialysis is beyond anything I can imagine.  Most would have sent him to a nursing home or Hospice.  You were a trooper to give that kind of care and I’m sure his doctors, nurses and Hospice applaud you as those who know and love you do. Pops will always be missed. Me and Pops use to go to the yellow steak and cheese sandwich shop together all the time in Crystal River. He introduced me to Philly cheese steaks. Also we enjoyed each other at the pool at NCLR. We rode a many of miles together in either my golf cart or one of his. There will never be anything that can replace the hole in my heart that was made on Aug. 5. Pops I pray your doing well where you are, no pain, no sorrow, and one day i will meet you there. Aunt Pat,I am so sorry for your loss.  I can''t explain how important important you and Pops has been to me and my family.  When I first moved to FL back in 96 and met you guys, I knew this would be my new home. Although my time having Johnny in my life was not as long as I wished, it has been one of the most important things to happen in my life. He is partially responsible for the man I am today. He will forever be in my heart and every memory I have of him will put a smile on my face, fom driving his heavy equipment to almost killing us in his boat. Pat,We will miss John. Our telephone chats several times each week has been a part of my life, where we commiserated together over life's good and bad things. I wish I could talk with him now to see he how is enjoying the next life, free from pain and limitation. I truly hope he is having a ball.We will always remember so many things about you all. Rest in peace Pops, my condolences goes out to Pat, you gave him your best and took care of him up to the end.  Many years, many struggles, many laughs....he is in God's hands now, no pain any more, which is what we all want for him.  I still see him riding around with Peaches in the golfcart, sneaking Peaches into the pool area, waiting eagerly for breakfast, lunch and dinner....philly cheese, stuffed peppers....clams...and those Beautiful cheeseburgers....He is up there with his brother and other departed family and friends.  My sympathies to Pops' entire family because Pops left a void that can not be filled....Life is not promised to anyone, live it to the fullest and be kind to others on a daily basis.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Pat and Peaches.  John was such an amazing man….his sense of humor was unrivaled.  I totally enjoyed my time with both of you here at the dialysis center.  Pat, as a caregiver, friend and wife to John, you were the best!  You worked so hard to do his dialysis at home and keep him happy.  He truly had a very good quality of life right up until the end.  I will miss being able to joke around with him and miss visiting with the two of you when you brought him into the dialysis center.  I know little Peaches is mourning as well.  God Bless you John and God Bless you as well, Pat, for you are truly an angel on earth.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Powers family, especially my Mother, Richie, and Tim.  Pops will be missed by all who knew him.  I am glad that he is not suffering anymore, the last few months were really hard on him.   Pops was always such a strong man and I know it was hard for him to accept help from anyone.  We have had many good times together and I will cherish the memories.  Mom we are here for you always!
