
He was born July 26, 1923 in Highland Mills, New York and came to Brooksville 20 years ago from Barnesville, Ohio. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal (3 Stars), American Defense Medal "A", Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal.
In 1946 Joseph married Janette Tallman in Highland Mills, New York while Joe was serving in the Navy. They had three children, Theodore, Dorene, and Robert and made Central Valley, New York home. In 1962 Joe and Janette owned and operated Stanfield’s Family Restaurant, Central Valley, New York, serving Italian and American food. Upon sale of the restaurant in 1966, they moved to Barnesville, Ohio, where Joe was Vice President and General Manager of Watt Car and Wheel Company, and Janette worked as Office Assistant until retirement. While living in Barnesville, Ohio, Joe and Janette traveled to many locations in the United States, Europe and Mexico. They were active members of Belmont Hills Country Club in St. Clairsville, Ohio and were both accomplished golfers. Joe and Janette retired to Brooksville, Florida in 1995. Both were members of the Brooksville Country Club and active members of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Brooksville for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife, Janette; sons, Ted Stanfield of Ticonderoga, NY and Bob Stanfield of Eldred, NY; daughter, Dorene Lovelace of Wawarsing, NY; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
