

He was born April 18, 1935 in Cuzzart, West Virginia and came to Brooksville 65 years ago from Morgantown, West Virginia. Junior, also known as JR and Ray, proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a homebuilder, owner, and operator of JR Groves Carpentry. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, an avid gun collector, and enjoyed selling antique rifles, pistols, and bayonets at area flea markets and shows. He was Protestant by faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William T. & Esther (Hardesty) Groves; six sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary R. Groves; daughter, Tonika Groves of Brooksville, Florida; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Groves and Troy & Debbie Groves, all of Brooksville, Florida; sister, Leona Collier of Lakeland, Florida; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00-11:00am, Monday, March 14, 2022 at Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel. Graveside Services with military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery at 12:30pm.
