The news of Ken’s passing into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ filled my heart with sadness and the living hope that by the Lord’s grace and mercy we shall be together once again in our eternal home. Ken and I were close friends, like family, in junior high and high school. We were both called into the ministry of our Lord in the Bryant (IN) Wesleyan Church in the 1950’s. We followed a similar journey of preparation for the ministry through Indiana Wesleyan University. From that time, our calling and assignments in the Lord’s vineyard has taken us on diverse paths of ministry; however, we have stayed in touch through the years. Nancy, you and Ken have had a marvelous, salvific influence upon a great multitude of people through your faithfulness to our Lord. I join in giving thanks to God for you both.

A personal reflection: Ken Heer was my pastor from the time I was 15 until a young father in my early 30’s. Take out my 5 years away from Marion to attend law school and work in Indianapolis and I imagine I heard over 750 of his sermons: each one a biblical, solid, clear, thoughtful, not “deep” but with depth, culturally relevant, insightful and convicting sermon. His sermons were spirit-filled but – contrary to what that phrase often conjures up – his tone was understated and subtle – you had to lean-in to catch the best parts.  Well-crafted messages – like a solid, practical but artistic piece of furniture.All the more impacting on this skeptical, sarcastic, college prof’s kid because Ken Heer lived a life as consistent and Christ affirming as his messages. He was a serious man, but there was always a twinkle in the eye, a witty observation and he was quick with self-deprecating humor.He is one of the 3 most influential men in my life and because of him, I am without excuse. Every Sunday I saw the Lord, high and lifted up.Debbie and I are heartbroken, and we are praying for Nancy, Phil, Jeff and Brad and their entire family.RIP, thou good and faithful servant. Nancy and family of Ken,We were blessed to know Ken since our college days at Marion College (IWU).  His polite nature permeated his attention to others.  His smile was always a recognition of a caring and loving heart and displayed his desire to always be a servant of God.  These more than 40 years have passed along and Ken's faithfulness provided a model of leadership and devotion.  Our hearts are saddened by his departure.  We are gladdened to know of his presence with our Lord and Savior.  We are in prayer for you and send our love.
