She was the big sister to brother, (Bubba) Tom Varn Jr. (Beth) and sister, Brenda Varn Hagen (Chip). Loraine was married to the love of her life, the late Tommie McLain Sr. for 50 years. She was the proud mother of three sons, Tommie McLain, Jr. (Carolyn), Joe McLain (Dee), and Tim McLain (Michelle) and deeply loved her grandchildren, Max (Olivia), Jencey, Courtney, Emily, Benjamin, and William and great-grandchildren, Lilah and Sophia. She served as an elementary school teacher in Hernando County for over thirty years. Her dedication to education and the youth of Hernando County earned her the honor of becoming Hernando County’s first Teacher of the Year in 1989, helping set a standard of excellence among the Hernando County School System. Having been stricken with polio at the age of five, she quietly used her disability and experience to be an inspiration and role model to her students, family, friends and many others with her loving, positive attitude.
Loraine was an active member of the Brooksville Church of Christ. She was an avid supporter of youth sports in Hernando County and was a member of the Junior Service League of Brooksville. A proud native of Brooksville, Loraine had many friends and acquaintances with whom she always enjoyed sharing memories and stories. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.
