CIUCCI, Luigi was born on Nov 8, 1928 in the small mountain town of Tagliacozzo, Italy, located approximately 55 miles north east of Rome. The town was among many small towns in the L'Aguila province, that had been occupied by German forces during WWII. As a young boy, Luigi worked hard helping his mother and sisters with the upkeep of the homestead. As a young boy, he sold firewood and helped his Uncle Peter with maintenance and sale of livestock. Luigi was also an Altar Boy. At the age of 20, Luigi immigrated to the United States by himself and settled in Yonkers, New York. He worked in the concrete business and in 1953 enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War period. Upon discharge, he and his brother Vincenzo started a concrete company, Ciucci Brothers Concrete Contractors, Inc. Eventually Luigi became the sole owner when Vincenzo passed away. The company was responsible for many commercial projects in the Yonkers and New York City area, specializing in bank vault construction. On September 6, 1953 Luigi married the love of his life, Mary Rita Dellorso whom he was married to for 61 years at the time of Mary's passing. They had a beautiful wedding reception at The Enchanted Room in Yonkers, NY. They immediately started a family and they had 4 children. Luigi built several beautiful houses for the family over the years in Yonkers and Somers, NY . He eventually sold the concrete company and bought a restaurant; Longhorn Steak Pit in Yorktown Heights, NY. After getting his fill of the restaurant scene, he sold the business and retired to Pasco County Florida and then Spring Hill, Florida. Luigi and Mary were long-standing members of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. In retirement, Luigi enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling, bingo and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team, and he and Mary enjoyed watching the games on television. Luigi never met a stranger that didn't instantly fall in love with his infectious smile! He enjoyed breakfast at the Breakfast Club in Spring Hill where everyone knew his name but he couldn't remember theirs! Luigi looked forward to visiting his son and daughter and grandchildren each summer in New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
Luigi has been called home by Our Lord. We will miss him dearly, our Pops, our Grandpa. Ti amo.
