

GRUBBS, Murray R., age 87 of Brooksville died Sunday, May 1, 2016 at his home. A lifelong resident of Brooksville, he was retired owner of Grubbs Fire and Casualty Insurance Agency and was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Murray was very active in the community, he was former chairman and three term member of the Hernando County Commissioners, chairman and board of trustees member for Pasco Hernando Community College, chairman and board member of Hernando County Housing Authority, founding member of the “Old Fogies” of Brooksville, he was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and a 10 year host of the Civil War Re-enactment at his home and was active in the American Cancer Society, hosting its annual BBQ also at his home. He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Brooksville and devoted his life to God. Murray was an outdoorsman, an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. Most of all, he was a loving husband and a wonderful and doting father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Sue Carol; son: David Grubbs of Brooksville; daughters & sons-in-law: Julia & Mark Reeves of Jamestown, North Dakota and Lynda & Lorne Shackelford of Tallahassee; brothers & sisters-in-law: Ronnie & Dixie Grubbs of Bradenton; Claude & Sue Grubbs of Ocala and Maurice & Diane Grubbs of Brandon; grandchildren and their spouses: Douglas Grubbs, Rebekah & Caleb Drahosh, Aaron & Katie Reeves, Hastings & Elizabeth Reeves, Rachel & Jacob Speckman, David Reeves, Philip Reeves, Landon Shackelford and Lydia Shackelford; 4 great grandchildren: Abel & Tevye Drahosh and Judah & Zara Reeves and 3 on the way! As well as a host of extended family members and friends. Visitation for friends will be 1 – 2pm, Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Brooksville, where funeral services will begin at 2:00pm with Pastors Eddie Gandy and Bill Shaw officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Brooksville.
