KOMETAS, Nicholas Spiros, age 75 of Hernando Beach, Florida died Thursday, October 9, 2003 at Oak Hill Hospital. Born in Pireaus, Greece he came here 12 years ago from Tarpon Springs, Florida. He was a physical education teacher for the Miami-Dade Public School System and retired after 34 years. He was a retired colonel serving in U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Reserve, Medical Service Corp, He was a Korean Conflict Veteran, member of the Purple Heart Association, American Legion, VFW Post #15010, National Republican Committee, life member of AARP, an Alumni of the University of Florida and member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church.Survivors include his wife, Ermene; sons: Spiros N. Kometas of Miami, Florida; Dr. Athas N. Kometas of Daytona Beach, Florida; step sons: Richard D. Gordon of Augusta, Georgia and Steven D. Gordon of Clinton, Mississippi; daughter: Diamond Eleni Ackerman of Austin, Texas; 3 step daughters: Patricia E. Potter of Tampa, Florida, Karry Lynn Hanson of Brandon, Mississippi and Sallie Ann Mabry of Clearwater, Florida; brother: Anthony S. Kometas; 4 Grandchildren.Visitation for friends will be 2 - 4pm and 6 - 8pm, Mon., Oct. 13, 2003 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Spring Hill Chapel. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00am, Tues., Oct. 14, 2003 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Hudson, FL.
