Norma was saved at a young age and just to make sure she had it right she was baptized a second time in the creek at Shiloh Baptist Church in Hogg Creek, TX. She was a faithful tither, avid Bible reader and an active church member her whole life. Norma always wanted to follow and honor her Lord in all that she did. She was adored by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by many.
On November 13, 1934 Norma Jean was born at home in Crawford, Texas, the last of 8 children to Henry and Bertha Plemons Baker. At the age of 3, her mother passed away. Norma’s father was later killed when she was 16, sending her to live with her sister Lynette in Waco, TX and then her brother, William “Jim” in San Antonio, TX. After graduating high school, she married William Martin who was in the Air Force and together they had 4 children. They settled near his family in Kentucky. However, a divorce left her as a young single mother.
With the help of family and friends, Norma was able to overcome her life’s obstacles. She met and married William “Bill” Keith in 1966. Bill and Norma moved to Brooksville, FL to operate a business in November of 1975. Soon after moving to Brooksville, they joined First Baptist Church of Brooksville where they were active members. Bill became a deacon and custodian, while Norma sang in the choir, taught Sunday School for different age groups and served as the church finance secretary for 18 years.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Bertha Baker and her siblings Florence Queen, Howard Baker, William James Baker, Lynette Richards, Benjamin Baker, Elford Ray Baker, and Melvin Baker. Her legacy is continued through her children, Michael Eugene Martin (Kathy), Ronald Dale Martin (Rhonda), Pamela Gail Swanson (Erik) and Dennis Duane Martin (Connie) as well as 12 grandchildren Jeni, Angela, Chris, Kyle, Jimmy, Tara, Andy, Nick, Jeremy, Matthew, Karalyn, and Austin; and 23 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Visitation Gathering will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Brooksville (420 Howell Avenue, Brooksville, FL 34601), where the Memorial Service begins at 11:00 AM.
