Born July 2, 1931 in Catlett, Virginia, he came to the area 26 years ago from Tampa, Florida. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, including service during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his son, Randy Mercer. He is survived by his loving wife, Phylis; sons, Paul Mercer of Tampa, Florida, Philip Mercer of Philippi, West Virginia and Billy Mercer of Umatilla, Florida; daughters, Joni Hanna and Patricia Croft, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date.
