Born in Albuquerque, NM he came to this area 15 years ago from Tampa where he spent 22 years. He graduated in 1980 from Hillsborough High School, he was a dog handler for the Tampa Dog Track and Derby Lane, was a champion ping-pong player in Tampa, pitched Little League and was an avid championship bowler winning the Gasparilla Bowling Championship.Survivors include his son: Joseph A. Mercer of Spring Hill; daughter: Carol M. Mercer of Riverview, FL; parents: Paul & Phylis Mercer of Spring Hill; brothers: Paul E. Mercer of Tampa, Philip D. Mercer of Phillippi, WV, Billy J. Mercer of Umatilla, FL; sisters: Joni A. Hanna & Patricia A.
