

February 5, 1945 - March 9, 2021
Roger William Trautman ended his work on earth and returned to his Maker in the early evening hours of March 9, 2021, after a brief illness.
He was born February 5, 1945 and was the son of Merlin and Gertrude (Holmes) Trautman. Roger graduated in 1964 from Altoona High School, Altoona, PA and earned his accounting degree in 1986. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Navy on the USS Yosemite and based in Newport, Rhode Island from July 26, 1964 until February 12, 1968. He married Carol J. Smith, daughter of Bernard and Dollie (Nofsker) Smith, on October 7, 1967 in Altoona, PA.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his daughter, Kim (Trautman) Johnson, son-in-law, Richard, grandson, Richie, and granddaughter, Brittany, all of Florida; brother-in-law, Larry Smith of PA; sister-in-law, Linda (Snyder) Smith Burr of PA; and niece, Amanda (Smith) Kane of PA. His brother-in-Law, Leon R. Smith preceded him in death and was in Heaven to greet Roger.
Roger was an only child, and had extended family in Camp Hill, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, and Virginia.
He was an elected Tax Collector for Freedom Township, Blair County, PA and Spring Cove School District from 1986 to 2003 (when he resigned to move to Florida to be close to his daughter). Roger retired from SKF Industries in 2003 after 37 years of service. He was a founding member of the Jaycee's for East Freedom and Claysburg, PA, former member of Hollidaysburg Masonic Lodge and Jaffa Shrine Temple of Altoona, PA, former member of the Hernando Shrine Club, Spring Hill, FL, and a member of the Weeki Wachee Anglers Fishing Club.
Roger enjoyed sitting on the porch and talking with all the neighbors. He loved the water and enjoyed his Kayak and loved to fish. He also loved to garden and was often seen working in the yard. He really enjoyed the warm weather and rode his recumbent bike frequently. He was a very gentle man and loved by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.
Roger was buried at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida, with full Military Honors, on Friday, March 12, 2021.
