

Sharlene was born in Lakehurst, New Jersey to Lt. Commander Vernon T. and Eleanor Gletch Moss on March 14, 1943. She moved to several Naval bases with her family as a child and moved to civilian life as a teenager in Temple Terrace, Florida when her father retired from the military. She attended high school at Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Florida. After graduation she enlisted in the US Navy where she proudly served and met her husband of 59 years, Gordon L. (Sonny) Coburn, Jr., they were married on June 21, 1962, in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1970 they moved to Brooksville to raise family. She worked for S.W.F.W.M.D for 35 years, retiring as the Director of IRD. Sharlene also served on the Board of Trustees for Brooksville and Spring Hill Regional Hospitals, along with volunteering at local museums and organizations in Brooksville. She was known in the business community for mentoring young women who were starting out in the business world. She is described by family and friends alike, as a true fashionable southern lady with a soft heart, but a firm belief in manners.
She is preceded in death by her sisters: Carol Santa Cruz of Little Rock, Arkansas and Holly Moss of Sacramento, California.
Sharlene is survived by her husband: Gordon L. (Sonny) Coburn, Jr; a son: David Coburn and his wife Susan Mahon- Coburn, her daughter: Taraleigh Coburn and partner, Michael Reeve all of Brooksville, Florida. Three grandchildren: Joshua Cochran of Dallas, Texas, Justin Cochran of Palm Harbor, Florida, Emily Cochran of Greeley, Colorado along with a grandson-in-law, Angel Rodriguez and grand-daughter-in-law, Amanda (Williams) Cochran. Sharlene had two great granddaughters that she loved and treasured, Autumn Garza and Luna Leigh Hughes. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins that became her family, not just through marriage, but by choice.
The family is honoring Sharlene's request that there be no funeral or memorial held. There will be a celebration of life with immediate family and close friends that will take place in the spring which will be announced later next year.
