Aileen Lewis Bennett, 86, of Orange Park, Florida, formerly of Brunswick, departed this life Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Life Care Center of Orange Park. Memorial services will be conducted on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 5PM in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Thrower officiating. A private inurnment will take place the following Tuesday in Palmetto Cemetery.
Born February 2, 1932 in Danville, Virginia to the late Walter Henry Lewis, Sr. and Clyde Florine H. Lewis, she graduated from George Washington High School. Mrs. Bennett was a resident of Brunswick from 1976 until 2011. She moved to Orange Park, Florida in 2011. Aileen played the piano and organ, taught Sunday School, led the children’s choir and worked in VBS at several churches for over 40 years. She had been a member of Northside Baptist Church since 2000. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Vernon Bennett; a sister, Helen Dunevant; and five brothers, Cleo, Charles, Norman, Roy and Walter Lewis.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Thrower and husband Jerry of Orange Park; a sister, Nancy Boswell of Orange Park; two grandchildren, Charity Carpenter and husband Logan, and Philip Thrower and wife Laura; and five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Carpenter, Callie Carpenter, Levi Carpenter, Lincoln Carpenter, and Ezekiel Thrower.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon May 4, 2018 from 4 PM until 5 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church in Orange Park, Florida. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.edomillerandsons.com
