Alice, age 93, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away on December 18th, 2023 at the Southeast Georgia Health System Hospital. She was born and grew up in Bainbridge, Georgia along with three siblings. From a young age she dreamed of traveling overseas and her wish came true in the 1950s when she went to work with the American Embassy in Pakistan. There, she also met her future husband, Victor Patterson from Sevierville, Tennessee who worked overseas as a photographer. They were married in Karachi, Pakistan in 1959 and traveled throughout the Middle East and Europe before returning to the states. They traveled to many different countries together, from Pakistan and India to Rome and Greece. They settled down first in Washington D.C. and later to Phoenix, Arizona where her daughter, Miriam, was born in 1960. Sadly, six months later, her husband passed away and she moved to Atlanta, Georgia to be closer to family members. She resumed her career with the U.S. Government with a strong work ethic and dedication as a single mother. Alice retired after 30 years of service and spent many happy years spending time with her grandchildren. She was a very independent and resilient woman and a beloved mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Miriam Murdy, son in law, William H. Murdy III, two grandchildren: Rebecca Murdy and Patrick Murdy, stepdaughter Lela Reeves, and two step-grandchildren David Curtis and Amy Bankey.
A funeral service will be held at Christ Church, Frederica on St. Simons Island at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 27th, 2024, followed by an internment ceremony at the Christ Church Cemetery.
