Arlie Maxton McNeill passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 9:00 am at his residence in Brunswick, Ga. after a battle with cancer. Arlie’s wife Sheila, daughter Leslie and granddaughter Norah were with him when he went home to heaven.
Arlie was born on March 31, 1936, in Seagrove, NC to Forrest Arlie and Conie McNeill. In 1955, he joined the US Navy and became a dental assistant but soon realized he was meant to be a mortician.
On July 1, 1961, he married the love of his life, Sheila M. McNeill.
In 1962 he graduated from John A Gupton College mortuary school in Nashville, TN with Sheila by his side.
Upon returning to Brunswick, he was employed by Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home and later he became part owner with Johnny Wilson. Arlie served Edo Miller for over 50 years. He will forever be remembered as Arlie from Edo Miller.
In 1967, he and Sheila welcomed their only child, Leslie Lynn.
Arlie was a well-known auctioneer, a 50-year Mason at Lodge 214 F&AM and in 1977 became an ordained deacon at Norwich Street Baptist Church. He also served on the Georgia State Board of Funeral Services from 1998-2004 and was the area manager for the Loewen Funeral Group for 5 years.
Arlie was a devoted servant to this community and a devout Christian.
In addition to his parents, Arlie was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Asbill and a daughter, Ashley.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila McNeill; a daughter, Leslie Manoukian (Richard); two grandchildren, Norah Houmard (Ty) and Ryan McNeill (Blaire); two great grandchildren, Rayne A. McNeill and Kylie Houmard, and two nieces, Melissa Skoglund and Stacy McDowell of Seagrove, NC.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Avenue, Brunswick. The funeral service will be Sunday, August 20, at 4:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be private.
