

Asa Richard “Dick” Brown, 83, a long-time resident of Brunswick, died on August 14, 2014, at the Senior Care Center. A memorial service for Dick will be held at First Baptist Church, Brunswick, on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at 11:00 am with the Reverend James Crandall and Dr. Chris Winford officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
Dick was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on December 12, 1930. He lived in Jacksonville, Florida for a number of years before moving to Brunswick in 1949. He entered the Air Force in 1950 and was honorably discharged in June of 1954. He entered South Georgia College in the Winter Quarter of 1955. During this time he met June Pilcher and they were engaged in June, 1955, and were married on August 14, 1955. He graduated from Georgia Southern in June of 1959. He returned to Brunswick to work with his father at Brunswick Produce and in December, 1962 he went to work at Brunswick Pulp and Paper. He retired in 1996 as Superintendent of Warehouse and Shipping. Dick loved the produce business and after retiring, he would buy produce and sell it as a hobby. He lived life with gusto, laughed every day, played some golf, and lived every minute.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Clyde and Jane Rachael Brown, two brothers, John Clyde Brown, Jr. and Homer Cathey Brown, and four sisters, Harriet Lenore Brown Goff, Eloise Brown Miller, Elizabeth Jayne Brown Gibson Johnson, and Emmy Carter Brown.
Dick is survived by his wife of 59 years, June Pilcher Brown, daughter, Jane Adaire Brown Spaulding, son-in-law, Mark Anthony Spaulding, four sisters, Cleo Brown Bishop, Frances Linda Brown Mock, Gladys Brown Oyler (Charles), Fran Brown, one brother, George Vaughn Brown, and many nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are the Wisdom Seekers Sunday School Class of Brunswick First Baptist Church, Sara and Charles Maxwell, Dr. Marsha Certain, Dr. David Kranc, Cinde and Hazen Kent, Judy and Al Crouch, and the Staff, Nurses, CNAs on the Live Oak Unit and Physical Therapy of the Senior Care Center, who the family wishes to give a very special thanks for their care and love of Dick.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1311 Union Street, Brunswick, Georgia, 31520, or to the charity of their choice.
