

Audrey Arden Aiken Mayhood, 82, of Brunswick passed away on Thursday April 26, 2012 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held Monday, April 30, 2012 at 11am at Langston Chapel Cemetery 104 Langston Chapel Rd., Statesboro, GA.
Ms. Mayhood was born November 25, 1929 in Ilion, New York to Vera Irene Hess Englander and Lewis R. Aiken. She graduated from Florida State University in 1951 and became a teacher in Tallahassee, FL until 1953 when she entered into service with the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, she taught in the Wallkill and Monticello, New York school systems, then went to Biloxi, MS before settling in Brunswick where she taught from 1968 until retiring in 1992. Ms. Mayhood liked to work and stay busy, even while she was teaching school she worked pert-time at Western Sizzlin and after she retired from teaching she worked at Kmart and then JC Penney until she could no longer work.
Ms. Mayhood is survived by her daughter, Frances I. Bryant and son, Michael F. Mayhood, both of Brunswick, five grandchildren, three great grandsons and two nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
