Barbara M. Berchet

Barbara M. Berchet, 70, of St. Simons Island, GA passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Southeast Georgia Health Systems. A native of Toombs County Georgia, Mrs. Berchet was the daughter of the late I. H. Meadows and the late Ruth Agerton Meadows. Mrs. Berchet had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 45 years. She was a graduate of Vidalia High School, Central Texas College and Brunswick Junior College. Mrs. Berchet was employed by Sea Palms as a secretary and was also a realtor with Ellsey Realty, where she was awarded recognition for her excellent service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brunswick, where she also attended the Berean Sunday School Class. In later years, Mrs. Berchet was a homemaker; her hobbies included reading and sewing.

Mrs. Berchet was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. I.H. Meadows.

Survivors include her husband Dennis Berchet of St. Simons Island, GA; her daughter Catherine Carlson of St. Simons Island, GA; three brothers Harris Meadows of Uvalda, GA, Jim Meadows of Vidalia, GA and Hamp Meadows of Lyons, GA; her uncle David Branch of St. Simons Island, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM Friday, September 17, 2010 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, GA.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Twitty Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Brunswick with Reverend Jim Crandall, Mr. Jim Meadows and Mr. Robbie Dotson officiating. Interment will follow the service at 3:00 PM Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Gardens at 4969 Highway 15 Vidalia, GA 30474.

Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Dave Herndon, Earl “Skip” Slocum, Jim Jordan, Hampton Meadows, Jim Meadows, Ray Snow, and Derick Hulsey.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be the Berean Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church in Brunswick.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at 400 Mall Blvd. Savannah, GA 31406 or the First Baptist Church Building Fund of Brunswick at 708 Mansfield Street Brunswick, GA 31520.
