Benjamin Randall Lawless

July 19, 1976April 3, 2019

Benjamin Randall Lawless was born on July 19, 1976 and passed away at the age of 42 on April 3, 2019. Ben was special in ways that are hard to describe. Everything that comes to mind would seem hyperbole to those who had never met him but these words are only fitting for someone who was so memorable, so unique, so talented, so special.

Ben was gifted in many ways- most obviously as a musician. A prolific song writer, recorder and producer, he was also a supreme jokester, amusing story-teller, master debater and the ultimate contrarian. A true non-conformist, he inspired others with the authenticity with which he lived his life. He had talent, creativity, soul, and passion that left many people taken aback. He could also be temperamental and tortured. He was smart, handsome, charming, kind, sensitive, and at times plenty serious. He often left us confounded by his deep reflections on life and the world around us. And sometimes he just rambled on in what could have only been attempts to mess with us.

Ben had high highs and low lows, he loved passionately and hurt deeply, and for the past several years suffered with severe depression and alcoholism. He had a long list of friends and family who made every effort to help him - so many loved him - but in the end, he chose to leave us with our good memories and his good music.

Ben is survived by his parents, Billy and Teeny Lawless, his brothers Will Lawless and Sam (Tory) Lawless, and sister Leigh (Alex) Acevedo. He was Uncle Ben to Georgia Lawless and Emilia Acevedo. Nisa Asokan was a significant person in Ben's life. Sean Schuster-Craig was his best friend. He leaves behind extended family, friends, and fans (and maybe some foes) in places far and wide.

Like all great musicians, he left us wanting more.

Teeny, you were a Champion at trying to find help for Ben. I wish things turned out differently but I know that he has perfect peace now with our Creator. Your family's stories about the creative genius, sense of humor and passion that made Ben the man he became was captured brilliantly by the pastor at the service.
Teeny, you have an amazing family!
