

Betsy Cregger Stewart, age 83, passed away at her home on September 13 with her loving husband of 61 years by her side. Betsy Cregger was born in Blacksburg, VA on Feb 18, 1930. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in dietetics. She married her sweetheart, Stan, on June 6, 1952. She lived an amazing life - raising her family with her husband whose career in the US Navy took them to California, Thailand, Virginia, Japan, Rhode Island and eventually to their family home on Jekyll Island, Georgia. Betsy lived an active life and thrived with her children, grandchildren, her community work and her ceramics. She was an active member of the Jekyll Island Art Association, the Garden Club, Sand Dollars Club, the Paupers Club and she loved teaching in her Ceramics Studio.
She will be deeply missed by her family including her husband, CDR Stanley Stewart, Jr., her children: Deborah Franks and her husband, Ron; Linda Wiseman and her husband, Dave; and Stanley Stewart III and his wife, Marcia.
Betsy was lovingly involved in her grandchildren’s lives. They include: Bryan and Jason Wiseman; Eric and Malorie Stewart; Laura Trela and her husband Mike; Chip Franks and his wife; Laura, Kristen Yates and her husband; Michael, and Kimberly Franks.
She also loved being around her great grandchildren, which include Katelann Franks Sanford and her husband Marc, Seth and Aaron Trela, Amanda, Alyssa, and Alec Franks.
Her memorial service will be held at Jekyll Presbyterian Community Church on Tuesday, September 17 at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Alan N. Baroody will be officiating. The Paupers Club will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Jekyll Presbyterian Community Church Trust Fund. Betsy was the heart of our family and will be very much missed – but we celebrate her loving touch on all our lives.
