Betty was born on January 26th, 1927 in Southampton, Pennsylvania, to the late Eugene and Anna Whitaker. She graduated from Richboro High School, and attended class reunions for many years into her 80’s. Betty was married for 66 years to her husband Bob, after meeting at a dance at the Richboro Fire Hall. She was a homemaker, and followed Bob to Japan in 1953 with their two small girls while he was in the service. They later moved to Texas, then settled in Secane, Pennsylvania for 57 years before moving to St. Simons Island to live with their eldest daughter.
Betty was a dedicated bowler, frequently bringing home trophies from one of her three bowling leagues. She loved movies, babysitting her grandchildren, and traveling with her family. She kept a daily diary until 2015, which became a source of family history. Betty was known for her sweet disposition and memorizing the birthdays of all of her friends, neighbors, and family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Betty was preceded in death by her sister Arnita Cardamone. She is survived by her husband Robert F. Doheny; her daughters, Deborah (David) Wright and Mary Arbe; her grandchildren, Ingrid (Brian) Beck, and Erick (Danielle) Arbe; and great-grandchildren, Ava, Heidi, and Viveka Beck, and Genevieve Arbe.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Marsh’s Edge and Hospice of the Golden Isles for the professional and compassionate care they gave to Mrs. Betty.
