Mrs. Carlton was born in Athens, GA, February 10, 1931 to the late Ruth Leverette Beeland and George Thomas Beeland. Beverly graduated from the University of Georgia in 1952 where she was a member of the Tri-Delta sorority. She moved to Augusta, GA in 1966 where she lived until she relocated to St. Simons Island in 2011. While living in Augusta, she enjoyed watching golf and entertaining the golfers and guests that visited Augusta. She was also a member of Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church where she was active with the Prime-Time group. Beverly enjoyed watching the Braves play, took much pleasure in swimming, and absolutely adored visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed to all whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carlton is preceded in death by her husband, William Morton Carlton, Jr. and a son, Thomas Morton Carlton.
Survivors include her two sons, Dr. William Beeland Carlton, (COL, Ret. USA) and wife Laura of St. Simons Island, GA; David Parks Carlton and wife Jane Anne of Huntsville, AL; eight grandchildren, Mrs. Leigh Gust (Eric) of Ft. Leavenworth KS, Mrs. Lindsay Robbins (Dave) of Sachse, TX, Mrs. Claire Gibson (Patrick) of Nashville, TN, William Carlton of St. Simons Island, GA, JT Carlton and Claudia Carlton of Monroe, GA, Bryan Carlton of Acworth, GA, and Andrew Carlton of Huntsville, AL, as well as four great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Sexton’s House, Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens, GA at 2 pm Saturday, July 20, 2013. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 pm and inurnment will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions in Beverly’s honor be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick GA 31525 or to Care Net Pregnancy Center of Coastal Georgia, 3548 Community Rd. Brunswick, GA 31525
