Boyd Lorraine Gault, 89, of Darien, departed this life, Saturday, April 13, 2024 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Glory Worship Center in Darien with Dr. Lee Brandt and Pastor Edgar Timmons officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrews Cemetery with Bobby Gault, Thomas Gault, Stephen Morris, Matthew Gault, Gregory Gault, Jr., Joseph Gault, Michael Horne, Michael McClenithan, Walter Ihde, Boyd Tyler Ihde, and Wayne McClenithan serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jack Amie, Dr. James Snow, Dr. Timothy Jamieson. Dr. Fred Marland, Ms. Alberta Mabry, Jim Coppage, Sheriff Steve Jessup, Clayton Redmond, Manny Smith, Steven Lanasa, and “his girls” from the County Commission offices, Sherrell Davis, Sharon Anthony, and Lauretta Sams.
Born November 15, 1934 in Kannapolis, North Carolina to the late Raymond Lee and Mary Mae Ola R. Gault, he had been a resident of McIntosh County since 1946. Mr. Gault worked for The Darien News after graduating from high school, he then went to work for Central Hardware in Brunswick and Darien. He later bought Central Hardware in Darien and renamed it Boyd’s Hardware. Mr. Gault also worked as a carpenter, and taught carpentry at The Job Corps. He also served as a McIntosh County Commissioner. He was a charter member of the McIntosh County Rod and Gun Club, the McIntosh County Volunteer Fire Department, McIntosh County Lions Club and Darien Jaycees. He was a member of Glory Worship Center and enjoyed socializing, fishing, cooking, and helping others. He also always shared with others about his grandchildren and great grandchildren to friends and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Bernice Francis F. Gault, an infant daughter, a son-in-law Walt Ihde, his sister Daisy Bowers, his brothers Hugh, James and Charles Gault.
Survivors include five children, Eddie Gault and wife Tammy of Darien, Raymond Gault of Dublin, Cynthia “Cindy” Morris and husband Dwayne, Gregory Gault and wife Marcia, and Susan Ihde all of Darien, 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a brother, Harold Gault of Colorado Springs, CO.
