Carl passed peacefully on June 19, 2026 at age 77 after a life well lived. If the measure of a successful life is unqualified love of family and impacting the lives of other people, Carl was a true success. Carl lived his life to the fullest and had great enjoyment in doing so. He had a zest for life and tried to make the most of every moment. His compassion, advocacy, and investment in those around him will be missed and always cherished. When Carl became an ally he was an ally for life.
In addition to those he loved, Carl made a lasting mark through his dedication to education, especially for those who faced challenges and needed extra supports. His advocacy at the state level led to changes that marked great improvements. Carl expressed his creative gifts through the arts. His paintings speak to his talent and vision. Carl and Betsy were world travelers and through their extensive travel he developed a rich appreciation for people and diverse cultures. He expressed himself, his values, his priorities, and his passions in many lasting ways.
Carl was born in Jamestown, NY. He graduated from the State University of NY at Brockport where he met his future wife, Betsy. Carl completed his graduate work at SUNY at Fredonia. He taught art and took on leadership roles in education prior to moving to Jekyll Island. For over 30 years Carl and his family have made Jekyll Island their home. He had a great love for Jekyll and truly felt at home by the sea.
Carl leaves behind his wife, Betsy and their daughter Andrea, Matt, and her daughters, Alex and Bella. Also surviving is his son Aaron, his wife Christy, and their daughter, Skye. Carl's brother Joe and his children, Megan and Nick and their children, will also hold memories close as will other family and countless cherished friends.
A service to honor Carl will take place at Faith Chapel, Jekyll Island, at a time to be announced. Please keep memories of Carl and his spirit near to your heart.
