Carol Jane Duke, 75, of Brunswick, Georgia, formerly of Fernandina, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Home Life on Glynco in Brunswick. A funeral service will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 11am.
Born on December 17, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late James E. and Ruth K. Peterson, Carol lived a life full of faith, family, and adventure. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bruce Richard Duke, a retired Secret Service agent and a devoted Baltimore Orioles fan; her cherished daughter, Sara Lynn Duke; her parents and her brother.
Carol embraced life with warmth, kindness, and a love for family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and took on the role of grandmother, embracing it with mightiness. Her bond with these children was unmatched, filling their lives with magic, joy, and laughter. Carol’s childlike innocence allowed her to connect deeply with them, creating memories they will treasure forever.
Carol and her family lived in many places over the years, creating a lifetime of cherished memories together. She and Bruce shared a love for travel and exploration, whether vacationing on the sandy shores of Sanibel Island, enjoying cruises with friends, or visiting the enchantment of Disney World. Even the simplest moments, like a staycation at the Omni, were filled with joy.
A woman of remarkable vitality, Carol enjoyed running and found great peace and happiness at the beach. She attended St. Michael Catholic Church in Fernandina, Florida, was a dedicated volunteer at Homelife on Glynco where she lived her last days, and a former sales associate with Publix. Known for her delicious scalloped potatoes, fresh-popped popcorn, and warm chocolate chip cookies, she was a welcoming hostess whose generosity made everyone feel like family.
Carol had an adventurous spirit and a caring heart. She was also a dedicated crossing guard for Clemens Crossing Elementary School in Columbia, Maryland. She was always a loyal and supportive friend and to many she was like an extra mom, offering guidance and unconditional love.
Her unwavering faith was the foundation of her life, as she carried the words of Psalm 23 close to her heart. It gave her strength and resilience, guiding her through life’s challenges and inspiring those around her to live with hope and trust in God.
Carol is survived by all the children that looked up to her as their grandmother, those who saw her as their mom and countless friends who will remember her for her elegance, strength, and boundless love.
In her memory, donations may be made to The Lupus Foundation of America at lupus.org.
