Mrs. Cassie H. Edwards

Cassie Hackle Edwards, 88, passed away Sunday May 18, 2014 at her residence. Funeral service will be held 2 PM Friday May 23, 2014 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Father Wilfrid Logsdon officiating. Family will be receiving friends one hour prior to service from 1 PM - 2 PM. Entombment will follow the service in Palmetto Cemetery. Sebastian McCullough, Shannon McCullough, Jeff Whitworth, Ron Mizelle, Don Wood and Christopher Stokes will be serving as pallbearers. Waynesville Volunteer Fire Dept will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Edwards, a lifelong native of Brunswick, GA, was born September 10, 1925 in Ocilla, GA to the late D.E. and Ludie McKenzie Hackle. She retired from Woolworths after many years, then retired from Wal-Mart after 25 years at the age of 81. Mrs. Edwards was a member of the St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church in Brunswick, GA and a supporter of the WVFD. During WWII Mrs. Edwards help build as a welder the 99 Liberty Ships.

Mrs. Edward’s is preceded in death by her husband Andrew M. "Ed" Edwards, her parents D. E. and Ludie McKenzie Hackle ;two sisters: Hazel H. Screws and Tempie Faye Pellerin; and two brothers: Eddy R. Hackle and Edward B. Hackle.

Survivors include Mrs. Edward’s son: William “Henry” Edwards, (Nita) of Waynesville, GA; two granddaughters: Tina (Shannon) McCullough, Comer, GA. and Tonya Whitworth, Waynesville, GA ;four great- grandchildren: Paxton and Sebastian McCullough and Cole and Journey Whitworth; two brothers: Billy L. Hackle of Benson, Az. and Bobby J. Hackle (Caroline) of Savannah, GA; three sisters: Libby H. Page (Ray) of Savannah, Ga., Betty H. Paschal (William E. "Butch") of Auburndale, FL, and Virginia H. Blanton of Warwick, Rhode Island, sister-in-law Sandra F. Hackle (Eddie R. deceased) of Bloomingdale, GA., Hershel Screws (Hazel deceased) of Vero Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews.
