He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Christine “Chris” Lewis of St Simons Island; his children, Amy, Brian, and Jeff Lewis all of St. Simons Island; also his grandchildren, Charlotte of St Simons, Michael of Kentucky, and Oliver Lewis of Atlanta GA.and his sister, Terri Lewis Sayre (Alan) of New Orleans, LA.
Charlie as he was affectionately known was born February 11, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee to Robert and Carmella “Lana” Ambrogio Lewis. His mother passed away in 1993 and his father died in 1994. Charlie resided as a child in the High Point Terrace area before relocating to Memphis, where he spent most of his life. He graduated from the Catholic High School for Boys in 1965 and later from Memphis State University in 1970. After graduating from MSU, he served his country in the United States Army Military Police Corps during the Vietnam War. He was also an amazing accordion musician and spent his early years at Central Academy of Music.
In 1974 Charlie married the love of his life, Mary Christine Tansey, they had three children together, traveled to many parts of the United States and the world. They traveled frequently to his favorite country, Ireland which Charlie chronicled with his love for photography.
In Memphis, Charlie worked in procurement with the Baptist Memorial Hospital in the Medical Center and the University of Tennessee Medical Group. While in Memphis, Charlie was a Boy Scout Leader, an avid collector of coins, and sports memorabilia.
In 2003, Charlie moved to Saint Simons Island to work with Southeast Georgia Health Systems as the Director of Procurement where he retired a few years ago. Charlie and Chris enjoyed Newcomers, as well as any type of event that involves being near the Lighthouse or the pier on the island. Charlie served as treasurer of The Archeology Club and a member of St. Williams Catholic Church.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Williams Catholic Church at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 18, 2021.
