

Charles Augustus Smith, 75, of St Mary’s, Georgia, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Mayo Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born July 18, 1940 in Sycamore, South Carolina to the late William Ivie Smith, Sr. and the late Lucille Pope Smith. He has been a resident of St. Marys Georgia for the past 10 years.
Fondly known as “Downtown Charlie” he will always be remembered for his love of people and his love of collaboration. He held many prestigious titles in life, but the consensus building, encouragement, mentoring and leadership qualities that he worked diligently to plant within anyone willing to listen and learn, leaves a rich legacy that will last long beyond his 75 years on earth. He always saw God’s potential in people and became God’s Hand in their life’s journey.
He will never be forgotten by those who love and cherish his memory.
In addition to Mr. Smith’s parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Mary Smith of St. Marys, GA; four sons: Chuck Smith (Kim) of St. Michael, MN; Ed Wojtusik (Lisa) of West Palm Beach, FL; Dave Wojtusik (Melody) of Palm City, FL; and Brian Wojtusik (Donna) of West Palm Beach, FL; two daughters: Lori Wojtusik (Shawn) of Jupiter, FL and Cameron Smith of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; two brothers: William I. Smith Jr. (Pearl) of Penny Farms, FL.,and Frank Smith (Lynn) of Argyle, TX; seventeen grandchildren; Buddy, his pet Yorkie; and many other family members.
Mr. Smith’s visitation and funeral service will be held at Southeast Community Church, 790 Maycreek Drive, Kingsland, Georgia. The visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 6 p.m. until. 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 1p.m. with Reverend Rick Douylliez, Pastor Steve Curtis, and Reverend William Stepp officiating. The family has requested private family interment at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Charlie fought a long hard battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Georgia, 3715 Northside Parkway, Bldg. 4 # 300, Atlanta, Georgia 30327 or online at www.lls.org in his memory.
