

He was an apprentice in the pastry field when he married his sweetheart, Inge. After marriage, the couple made the voyage across the Atlantic and settled in Miami, Florida where he worked as a pastry chef at the Eden Roc Hotel on Miami Beach. In 1975 the family moved to St. Simons Island and he began working as the Executive Pastry Chef at the Cloister Hotel. After retiring from Sea Island in 1992, Chef Ihde was recruited by and began working at Harris Teeter grocery store as their pastry chef due to the large number of people who requested his services. He was a wonderful musician who played many instruments including the accordion and the organ. Chef Ihde never met a stranger and he enjoyed working and being around people. He especially loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Inge Ihde, of Brunswick; a son, Walt Ihde (Susan) of Darien; a daughter, Margrit Ihde Dupe (Michael) of Fort Walton Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Summer Ihde of Brunswick, April Ihde of Seattle, WA, Walter Ihde of Darien, Tyler Ihde of Darien, Jessica McClenithan of Darien, Michael Horne of Brunswick and Brian Rider of Dahlonega, GA, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Brandy Rider.
The family invites you to celebrate Chef Ihde’s life on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A catered reception will follow.
