Today I discovered that my dearest oldest friend died on December 6, 2023. We communicated via text on every imaginable occasion and she would respond immediately after with her XO❤️…
After several months of holiday texts, I noticed that she was not responding back like she would normally do. I was feeling a bit unease so I decided to give her a call to find out why I haven’t heard from her. Van answered the phone thinking he would pass the phone to Cheryl only to hear him rambling on about her clothes and cleaning the house he finally calmed down and told me she had died. My heart stopped…No No No…Cheryl can’t be gone! 

My sweet dear friend Cheryl was pure goodness. She was magical and talented with a gift of words and an artistically delightful penmanship uniquely her own. A beautiful person with a dazzling smile, she was the most generous, the most kindest, the most caring, the most loving soul on this planet.  

I’m so sorry…I’m so sorry…I’m so sorry…

My deepest sincerest condolences to you and your loving family on the loss of an amazing beautiful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and best friend. 

Cheryl, you will always have a special place in my heart and memory.

I lost my best friend/ grandmother..

The only perfect human being to exist. 

No one is perfect but she was and still is

Just not here on Earth.

I saw Cheryl almost every day for at least 10 years when I worked at the Commissary and will miss her very much.  She was a caring and loving person and one I will never forget.  If there was a need she was always there to help.

I had such a nice text from Cheryl on Tuesday afternoon. She was a good friend and a wonderful person. May her family be comforted by their wonderful memories of her.

The Foster’s lived right down the street from the Harts. Ms. Hart daughter Maren and I used to play all the time together.  I played over there at her house all the time. I remember her mother being the sweetest, kindest person to me. The Foster’s are sending there condolences! 💐

It was always a joy to visit the shop and have a chat with Cheryl. She will be missed by many of us here on Jekyll Island. Please accept my sincere condolences

So sorry to see this post. Just had a nice talk with Cheryl when I stopped in to get something the Sunday after the Shrimp and Grits Festival before leaving.
Always enjoyed stopping in and talking to them both. A fixture on the island.

So sad to hear this. You will be missed sweet lady. We never visit Jekyll without visiting your shop and we’ve always purchased our globes from you. You are so loved by visitors from all over the world. Thank you for your kindness and thank you for always being so helpful when we visited your shop on Jekyll Island.

So very sorry to learn of this precious lady passing. Our family always enjoyed Just By Hand and visiting with her each time we go to JI. Thoughts and prayers to her family. 🙏

My deepest sympathy to Mr Van and the family. Mrs Cheryl was always so sweet to me when I visited Just By Hand each winter.  When I would bring friends in to shop, she always thanked me for promoting her business. It was a joy to know her, I will miss my dear friend.

Robert and I are saddened and shocked of Cheryl’s sudden passing.  Cheryl and I were ORT Presidents together in the mid 80’s.   No trip to Jekyll was complete unless we stopped by their store to see Cheryl and Van.  Condolences to her entire family.  RIP my friend.
