

Born on Dec. 28, 1933, in Macon, Ga., and graduated in 1952 from Lanier High School, he received a NROTC scholarship at Georgia Tech where he was in SAE fraternity and on student council.
After graduation in 1956, he received a commission in the United States Marine Corps, serving as an infantry officer for three years, plus five years in the reserves, and attained the rank of major. From active duty, he joined IBM in sales in Atlanta and left IBM 10 years later in New Orleans. He moved his family to Baton Rouge to open his own computer company. He was a Rotarian for over 20 years and sold his business when his four children graduated from college.
After this, he was divorced and moved to Atlanta working as a computer consultant for 10 years. He met the love of his life, Jackie. Both Jackie and Claude played high level tennis (ALTA) in Atlanta and owned a cabin in the North Georgia mountains for 20 years, traveled to many countries and the coast of Georgia, which they really loved, and finally moved to St. Simons Island in 2002. Both were master duplicate bridge players and voracious readers. Claude played competitive tennis at Retreat and sang bass in "Messiah" for 11 years. He was also a member of the Glynn County Strummers.
Claude is survived by his wife, Jackie; twin sisters, Mary Frank Veal (Inman) of Gray, Ga., and Barbara Bramblett (Lamar) of North Carolina; sons, Steve Hollis (Leslie) of Dallas, Texas, and Paul Hollis (Cindy) of Baton Rouge, La.; daughters Ellen Feind (Jon) of El Paso, Texas and Mary Krings (Duane) of Fort Collins, Colorado. He is also survived by stepsons, Dr. Marlan Rhame (Nanette) of Fayetteville, Ark., Rhett Rhame (Julie) of Decatur, Ga., and Tyson Rhame (Bonny) of Atlanta, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A service and celebration of life event will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 2022 at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home.
