OBITUARY

Curtis DeWitt Shanks

December 2, 1953September 3, 2019

Curtis DeWitt Shanks, 65, of Nahunta, Georgia passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at his residence. Curtis was born December 2, 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late McLloyd Hogan Shanks, and the late Gloria Cattar Shanks. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville and furthered his education at Providence Hospital School of Nursing, and Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama and Mt. St. Marys College and Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Throughout his career as a Registered Nurse, he enjoyed being of service to others. Mr. Shanks settled in Brantley County for the past 40 years and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to Curtis’ parents he is preceded in death by his sister Marie Gabrielle Shanks. Curtis is survived by his son Kalib Lacy Shanks, of Folkston, GA, daughter, Ashley Marie Shanks of Nahunta, GA, son Joshua Curtis Shanks, of Nahunta, GA, daughter, Bethany Dianne Shanks, of Nahunta, GA and son, Michael Hunter Shanks also of Nahunta, GA. Curtis is also survived by several grandchildren; Elijah DeWitt Capps, Elias Stuart Capps and Tucker Reese Capps, all of Nahunta, GA, Amiya Lacy Glover and Kendrick Montreal Glover also of Nahunta, GA, Karma Lana Shanks of Patterson, GA and Taylor Lynn Murphy of Hilliard, FL Stepmother of Jacksonville FL Mary Shanks, brother, Michael M. Shanks (Anne) of Galax, VA, sister, Mary Elise Ankersen (Grady) of Mobile, AL, another brother, Matthew E. Shanks of Mobile, AL and sister, Helana T. Shanks of Bell, FL. Curtis is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.

A Rosary will be held at 10:00am Thursday, September 12, 2019 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 405 Howe St. Brunswick, GA, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial where Father Tim McKeown will officiate. Interment will follow at Palmetto East Cemetery. Serving active pallbearers are Joshua Curtis Shanks, Michael Hunter Shanks, Ashley Marie Shanks, Richard Eugene Capps II, Chase Knox, and Salvador Solano

The family has requested that in lieu of customary remembrances, memorials may be made to the Seminarian Fund of the Catholic Diocese of Savannah 2170 East Victory Drive, Savannah, GA 31404

I worked with Curtis years ago in the Brunswick Emergency Room. He was very smart and very helpful. You could count on him in a stressful or life threatening situation and I enjoyed working with him. Blessings for peace and comfort for family and friends.
