A native of Brunswick, Cindy was born to the late Ray Garris and Harriet Owens Garris. She was a 1979 graduate of Glynn Academy, where she formed many lifelong friendships. That close-knit group of friends remained a special part of her life, gathering for ball games, social events, and cherished time together right up until the end. Cindy later earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Urban Horticulture from Front Range Community College in Lafayette, Colorado.
Following graduation, Cindy combined her artistic eye with her love of nature through a career in landscape design and horticulture. She spent eight years as a ColorScape gardener for the University of Colorado before moving to Central Florida, where she worked another eight years for Walt Disney World, helping create and maintain the beautiful landscapes enjoyed by millions of visitors. In 2011, she returned home to the Golden Isles she loved so dearly, bringing her talents to the Jekyll Island Authority before later joining the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. She eventually fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning her own landscape business, A Touch of Color, where her creativity and passion for beautiful outdoor spaces flourished.
An accomplished photographer, Cindy found joy behind the camera, especially when photographing landscapes and the beauty of the natural world. Her talent earned her second-place honors in a citizen photography contest in Clermont, Florida.
Cindy embraced life with enthusiasm and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved music, the outdoors, the ocean, and sports fishing, and she had a gift for making up her own colorful expressions that brought smiles to family and friends. She had a deep appreciation for all of God's creation and especially loved the feral cats of Jekyll Island. She volunteered her time feeding and tracking the cats and eventually adopted one to become part of her own family.
Her spiritual journey was an important part of her life. Cindy was a member of the Mile Hi Church in Denver, Colorado, and the Orlando Center for Spiritual Living in Orlando, Florida, where she found encouragement, friendship, and a deep sense of peace.
In addition to her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Ray and Marilyn Garris, and her mother and stepfather, Harriet and Robert N. Dunagan, Sr.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted spouse who she spent 30 wonderful years with, Mary Ann Nichols of Brunswick; her daughter, Casey Rozier and husband, Luke, of Brunswick; two beloved grandchildren, Reese Rozier and Ryan Rozier; two stepchildren, Paulette Nichols (Scott Chagnon) of Denver, Colorado, Troy Nichols (Hillary) of Clermont, FL and Troy's children, Kalei Deliar of California, Caleb Zoschke-Nichols of Denver, Micheal Nichols of Brunswick and Tory Ann Nichols of Clermont; a brother, Michael Garris (Julie) of Honolulu, Hawaii; two half-brothers, Matthew Garris (Rachal) of Valdosta and Steve Garris of Crestview, Florida; two nephews, Kellen Garris and Cash Garris; two step-siblings, Robert N.
