With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Dennis Joseph Roy. Dennis passed peacefully on February 15, 2024. On January 27th, he celebrated his 69th birthday. Dennis grew up in Woonsocket, RI, and later resided in Massachusetts. Dennis and Lidia were living their dream of travelling cross country in their motor home.
Dennis loved people and would do anything for anyone. He was kind, gentle, funny, loving, and silly. Although Dennis suffered many serious injuries in his life, he was always positive and never gave up. He often said “Don’t worry about me, I’m fine. Take care of each other and be happy”. Dennis was a protector and offered help to anyone in need. He made friends with everyone he encountered and was never at a loss for words.
Family was most important to Dennis. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lidia (Braga) Roy; and his two children, Jeremy Roy of Windermere, FL, and Joshua Roy and his wife, Beth, of Harrisville, RI; and three grandchildren, Tommy, Kira, and Everly. Dennis is also survived by his older brother, John (Jack) Roy and his wife Linda of Johnston, RI; Priscilla Laferte and her husband George of Woonsocket, RI; Joanne Lipka and her husband Daniel of Springfield, VA; Elaine Cote and her husband Andre of Woonsocket, RI; Sandra Laverdiere and her husband Michael of Lincoln, RI; and his sister-in-law, Lina Correia and her husband Duarte of Portugal. Dennis also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary (Kippy) Roy, formerly of Woonsocket, RI; his sister Christine Gorgone and her husband David, formerly of Greenville, RI; his in-laws, Manuel and Angelina Braga, and his brother-in-law, George Braga, all formerly of Hudson, MA.
The family will receive condolences at St. James’ Church, 33 Division Street, Manville, RI on Saturday, March 2, at 10:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
