Donna was born September 4, 1952, in Brunswick, Georgia, to Richard E. Dukes, Sr. and Ruby Copeland Dukes. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Dukes, Sr. and her brother, Darrel Glen Dukes. She is survived by her mother, Ruby Copeland Dukes and her brother, Richard E. Dukes, Jr. Also surviving, are her aunts and uncles: Eunice Johnson, Myrtis Lumpkin (Bill) of Jacksonville, Fla, Merlene Burgess (Mac) of Brunswick, Ga., Vernon Copeland and Emory D. Copeland of Waverly, Ga. Nieces: Katherine Daniel and Emily Le Van of Columbus, Ga. Jennifer Kreig (Michael) of Waynesville, Ga and, nephew, Seth Dukes of Carrollton, Ga.
Donna was a graduate of Glynn Academy and Georgia Southern with a Master’s Degree in Education.
Donna was a retired teacher, serving in Jacksonville, Fla, McIntosh County and Glynn County. She loved teaching, but her health cut her career short.
After retiring, she took part in as many community activities as her health permitted. She was a member of The Pilot Club of Brunswick and volunteered with several local organizations: Faith Works, Ritz Theatre, Glynn County Library, and several others. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to these organizations or the charity of your choice.
Donna loved traveling and had visited many states and foreign countries. But, her favorite was always the beach at Jekyll Island.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 22, 2021, in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Avenue, Brunswick, Ga., with Dr. Wright Culpepper, officiating.
