She was born in Screven, Georgia, to the late Alton Roy Roberson and Minnie Susie Perkins Roberson. At a young age, Doris moved to Brunswick, which she proudly called home for the remainder of her life.
Doris was a devoted homemaker who poured her love and care into her family. Her career path led Doris to a position with the Brunswick Hospital as Coordinator of the Red Cross Volunteers and the Candy Stripers. The Candy Stripers are a younger version of the Original Red Cross Volunteers. She held this position until her retirement.
She was a faithful member of Golden Isles Baptist Church.
Doris shared a deep love of travel with her husband, Don. Together they explored many parts of the world, including Europe, Alaska, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Cuba. To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, they embarked on a memorable 21-day cruise to San Francisco. Most recently, they celebrated an incredible milestone, 69 years of marriage, on December 15.
She is survived by her loving husband, Don Bankston of Brunswick; her son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Kim Bankston; and two cherished granddaughters, Lauren Bankston and Jessica Bankston.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Park Cemetery, with Reverend Travis Thrower officiating.
