Doyle “Buddy” Smith, Jr., 86, of Brunswick, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016 at Southeast Georgia Health Systems. Graveside Services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept., 12, 2016 at Palmetto Cemetery, with Reverend Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial following the service.
Buddy was born in Brunswick, Ga., on Nov. 26, 1929, the son of the late Doyle Kavannas Smith, Sr., and the late Bertie Ophelia Faircloth. He is a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during WWII conflict. Buddy retired from Glynco Civil Service as a firefighter, and was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to Buddy’s parents he is preceded in death by a brother J. L. Smith, sister Loretta Davis, and a great grandchild Nicholas McAllister.
Survivors include Buddy’s wife of 62 years Lucille A. Smith of Brunswick GA; son Charles Collins and wife Sallie of Darien, GA; granddaughter Charlotte McAllister and husband Paul of Elijay, GA; brother David L. Smith and wife Eve of Texas; and several other family members.
