Elaine Drury Henderson, 74, of Brunswick, Georgia departed this life on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Southeast Georgia Health Systems in Brunswick. A native and lifelong resident of Brunswick, Georgia, Elaine was born October 1, 1943 to the late William Leighton Drury and the late Lucille Strickland Drury. She graduated Glynn Academy in June 1961. After graduation, she started her career in the data processing department at Brunswick Pulp and Paper in Brunswick. In April, 1963, Elaine met the love of her life Roy Henderson. The couple married on April 6, 1963 and was blessed with their daughter Debra “Lynn” Henderson on January 20, 1967. In the fall of 1972, Elaine enrolled in the Brunswick Junior College nursing program, where she received her associate’s degree in Nursing. Upon passing the Georgia State Board Exam of Nursing, Elaine received her RN license in June of 1974. Elaine decided to advance her career in nursing and went back to Brunswick Junior College worked to within about fifteen credit hours of her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1982.
In 1982 Elaine began working as Relief House Supervisor with Brunswick Memorial Hospital, and was promoted in 1986 to Full Time Supervisor, retiring in June 2007.
Elaine was gifted as a server to mankind and animals. She was passionate about her love for taking care of everyone. She leaves many fond memories that will be cherished by all.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 55 years, Phillip "Roy" Henderson of Brunswick, GA; Daughter Lynn Henderson of Brunswick, GA; Special friend Scott Dennington and his son William Dennington both of Bluffton S.C; Three sisters Donna Butler and Husband Gator, Carol Kirkland and Husband Johnny and Polly Overstreet and Husband Jennings all of Brunswick, GA; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.
Elaine was preceded in death by her; mother Lucille Strickland Drury and father William Leighton Drury; and a brother Buddy Drury.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the Henderson family, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral home, 3321 Glynn Ave., in Brunswick. To honor Elaine's request her memorialization was by cremation
