Eleanor Johnston Thiesen

She was born November 23, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, and was the daughter of Dura Munday and James Mosley Johnston.

She graduated from Girls High School in 1947 and attended Georgia State University.

In 1949, she married her college sweetheart, George Traylor Thiesen.

She was an avid and excellent tennis player and was on the first ALTA team from the Piedmont Driving Club. Reading history and playing Bridge with the "Wednesday" ladies was a favorite pastime. She loved sports of all kinds, but especially loved college football. She cheered on Georgia Tech, our Dad's alma mater, (where he played football) . A few years after he died she jumped ship and became an avid Georgia fan, cheering on the DAWGS most every Saturday in the fall with her children and grandchildren and friends! (However she still loved the Yellow Jackets too.)

She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta, a member of The Junior League for over 65 years and many other volunteer groups.

She was the most vivacious, smart, kind, fun and funny Mom we could have asked for. Her infectious laugh kept everyone's spirits high!

She died peacefully in her sleep on March 28, 2025. She is survived by her children; Eleanor Thiesen Gregory (Charlie), Petrea Thiesen Tucker (Tommy), George Traylor Thiesen, Jr, Grandchildren; Larry Emerson Peacock, Thomas Cleveland Tucker, Jr., William Traylor Tucker, Benjamin Traylor Thiesen (Nara), Hydie Burroughs (Scott) Laura Tucker (Paul) Great Grandchildren: Jackson Ross Peacock, Ina Eleanor Thiesen, Richard Traylor Thiesen, Wesley Fitzgerald Thiesen, Amanda Caroline Burroughs, Isabelle Jane Burroughs.

Services will be in Beaufort SC April 16, 2025 at The Parish Church of St Helena at 3pm. Reception to follow at the home of Trea and Tommy Tucker, 7 Highpoint, Beaufort. A private family burial will be at a later date at Historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta Ga.
