
Mrs. Hutto was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Hutto of 45 years, her parents, her brother, Samuel Stephone Doss and her sister, Leary Bell Doss Finley.
Mrs. Hutto was born in McDuffie County, Thomson in 1918 to Annie Laurie McKinley and Samuel Stephen Doss. She was a graduate of Millen High School 1936 with honors and a graduate of the Berry College in June 1940 with honors. She received her Master Degree from Georgia Southern University in 1973 with a 4 point average.
Mrs. Hutto was a teacher of business education in the Savannah Vocational School for eleven years and then teacher and supervisor of the Manpower School under the Glynn County School system for 14 years.
Mrs. Hutto taught Sunday School for 50 plus years; teaching in Sardis Baptist Church, Sardis, Ga., Waynesboro Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, St. Simons Island. In other words, she taught wherever she as a member. She served as Vice President of the Women Missionary Union at St. Simons First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hutto received the PERSONALITIES OF THE SOUTH award in 1967-77. She alson received the Savannah Chapter Berry Alumni award on year. She served as president of the Savannah Berry Alumni Chapter as well as president of the South Georgia Alumni Association Chapter which she helped organized. She also was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. She was a member member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the local Alpha Alpha Chapter and Phi Kappa Phi.
Survivors are children, Val Monroe Hutto (Nancy), Pamela Goninan (Harv), and Alan Hutto (Kelly). Seven grandchildren are Mark Hutto (Frances), Helen Hutto Halloran, Leesa Martin, Kim Martin, Lee Browne, Ash Hutto and Hillary Hutto Wilson, 12 great grandchildren, Holden Hutto, Whit Hutto, Walker Hutto, Ashlee Martin, Nathanial Martin, Allee Martin, Madeline Halloran, Leonard and David Browne, Haley and Natalie Hutto,two great great grandchildren. Haley and Natalie Hutto, two sisters, Dorothy Branch and Christine Reeves , two brothers, Calvin Doss and Ray Doss.
Services will be held at 11 AM Monday 12/22/14 in the First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island with Dr. Felix Haynes officiating. Interment will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on St. Simons.
The family will receive friends in the Church from 10 to 11 AM Monday.
Donations may be made to St. Simons First Baptist Church or Berry College.
