She was born in Douglas, Georgia on October 22, 1918, to the late Jake and Minnie Moore Newbern. After finishing school in Coffee County, Georgia, Faye later moved to Brunswick in 1942 with her husband J. E. Bryant, who was one of the early employees of Brunswick Pulp and Paper Company. Faye was a member of Arco United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. An avid walker, she participated as a senior in several of the United Methodist Women’s Vashti Walks, where she received special recognition from the Governor for her achievements. An accomplished homemaker, she was known for her delicious “Southern Cooking”, love of gardening, fishing with her husband, large family gatherings, and spending summers on the beach when her children were young. Faye was an active grade mother and member of the PTA. She is survived by her son William “Bill” Bryant, Sr. (Joyce); three daughters; Barbara Hermes (Ron), Opal Rocha (Roy), all of Brunswick, and Kathy Preston (Frank) of St. Simons Island, six grandchildren; Bill Bryant, Jr. (Lynn), Alma, Ga.; Steve Bryant (Kim), Todd Rocha (Tara), Lisa O’Quinn (Chad), all of Brunswick, Kim Leggett (Curtis) St. Simons Island, Greg Hermes, San Diego, Ca., seven great-grandchildren, two sisters; Myrtle Hodapp and Beatrice Ford, both of Marietta, Ga., several nieces and nephews, and her dedicated caregiver Deborah Toliver. She was predeceased in death by her loving husband Jonathan E. Bryant, her parents, Jake and Minnie Moore Newbern, a daughter Betty Ann Bryant, three sisters and one brother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice of the Golden Isles, Arco United Methodist Church or charity of donor’s choice. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Avenue, Brunswick GA, with the Rev. Jim Crandall, the Rev. Glenn Lindsey, and the Rev. George Herndon officiating. Interment will follow the service in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons; Bill Bryant, Jr., Steve Bryant, Greg Hermes, and Todd Rocha, great grandsons; Christopher Hurt, Matthew Bryant, Trevor Bryant, and Evan Rocha, and great granddaughters; Erin Bryant, Mallory Bryant and Emily Rocha.
