Florine Whitfield was born November 27, 1946 to Alma Whitfield and WT (Dub) Jones in Brunswick, GA, who both preceded her in death. There she grew up and attended Risley High School.
In 1962, she married Tommy Lee Smiley and from that union she had three daughters. In 1972 she attended the Glynn County Adult Education where she obtained her GED and studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse at Brunswick Junior College.
In 1980, she remarried to Earl Edward Williams and moved her family to San Diego, California and lived there for 10 years where she was a military wife, mother and nurse.
She moved back to Brunswick in 1990 to help care for her ailing mother. After 38 years in the nursing field, she retired to live the balance of her life in leisure volunteering for her church and other non-profit organizations.
She leaves to morn her passing six sisters: Mamie Whitfield of Brunswick, GA; Gloria Cusgus of Philadelphia, PA; Shirley (James) Williams of Philadelphia, PA; Gwendolyn Barfield, Philadelphia PA; Rakell Jones, of Philadelphia, PA; and Mae (Eddie) Parks of Macon, GA. Three brothers: William Cusgus of Philadelphia, PA, Arthur Cusgus of Philadelphia, PA and Andrew Allen of San Diego, CA. Two aunts: Rhonda Jones of Brunswick, GA and Vanessa (Sherwood) Gibbs of Baxley, GA. Three daughters: Debra Powell of Brunswick, GA; Pamela (Kirk) Williams of Brunswick, GA, and Lanell (Brian) Haynes of Kingsland, GA. Stepson, Warren (Jaresa) Williams of Tampa, FLA. Godson, Greg King of Jacksonville, FLA. Five Grandchildren; Danica Spaulding of Brunswick, GA, Nandre (Toni) Pritchett of Augusta, GA, Brandale Presley of Kingsland, GA, DeQuy (Zamaria) Smith of Brunswick, GA and Kyle (Kelsey) Smalling of Williamsburg, VA. Nine Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, evening September 19, 2019 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home 3321 Glynn Ave., in Brunswick.
A celebration of Florine's life is to be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2019 at New Covenant Church 2625 Reynolds Street in Brunswick.
