

Fontuala Tofoya Simpson Burns, 47, of Townsend, Georgia, departed this life Sunday, May, 29, 2016 at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Memorial services will be held at 10AM Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with Rev Harvey Simpson officiating. Inurnment will follow on Monday, June 13, 2016 in Jacksonville National Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
Born May 21, 1969 in Ft. Pierce, Florida to Tommy Simpson and Essie Peterson, she was a graduate of Armstrong State University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She was a middle school teacher with the Glynn County Board of Education, and was also a cosmetologist. A member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Mrs. Burns enjoyed singing, teaching, and was an active part of her church ministry. She and Walter also enjoyed their time together, going on walks with family and friends and attending church. Mrs. Burns enjoyed designing jewelry, clothing and hairstyle, and especially inspiring others along the way. She had been a resident of McIntosh County for the past 10 years. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Willie and Willie Mae Simpson.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Lashawn Burns, Sr. of Townsend, a son, Walter Lashawn Burns, Jr. also of Townsend, her father, Tommy Simpson of Yemassee, SC, her mother, Essie Peterson of Townsend, 3 sisters, Ava Simpson, Tomi Simpson and Fayth Polite, all of Beaufort, SC, a brother, Ron Simpson of Crestview, FL, and two spiritual siblings, Barbara Payne and Henry Brown.
The family will receive friends at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church from 9 AM until 10 AM Saturday, June 11, 2016. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. www.edomillerandsons.com
