

Died Thursday September 25th at Hospice of the Golden Isles. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lois Teston Cox, three sons; Dennis and wife Gwen, Tommy and wife Carol, and Joey and wife Michelle; his brother Melvin and wife Ann, as well as several nieces, nephews and his faithful dog Maggie. Allen was preceded in death by his son Francis Gary Cox, his parents Francis W. Cox and Roberta H. Cox and sister Bessie Helen Cox.
Born in Chattanooga, TN on December 3, 1934, he graduated from Glynn Academy in 1954. He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard in 1962 after eight years of service.
While at Glynn Academy, he was active in the Future Farmers of America and served as chapter president his senior year. A member of Boy Scout Troop 204, one of his proudest achievements was earning the rank of Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm. He attended the National Jamboree in Valley Forge, PA in 1950 and was a scoutmaster for many years. He was employed as a Local 865 Union carpenter for a decade before being hired at Brunswick Pulp and Paper. He retired in 1997 as a digester operator after 34 years of employment.
Allen loved camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains, fishing, and hunting. He was an avid fan of Georgia Tech Football.
A memorial service and family visitation will be held at Taylors United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11 AM., with Reverend Whit Kirkland officiating. Iurnment will follow the service in Taylors United Methodist Church Cemtery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Taylors United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
