George Lilly Harrell

George L. Harrell, 48, longtime St. Simons resident, died Monday, September 24, 2012, at his current home in Brunswick. A family memorial service will be held at St. Ignatius Chapel on St. Simons Island, with Reverend Alan Akridge officiating. Deacon Becky Rowell will speak.

Born December 25, 1963 in Glynn County Georgia, to Wallace E. Harrell and Charlotte P. Harrell, he was Baptized at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, and became an acolyte at Christ Church, Frederica. He attended Frederica Academy, and was a 1982 graduate of Glynn Academy. Mr. Harrell, an accomplished golfer, also enjoyed drawing and collecting music CD's. He cherished his family and step family, and is remembered for his intelligence, courage, and kind heart.

Survivors include his father, Wallace E. Harrell, and wife Mary Harrell, of St. Simons Island, his mother Charlotte P. Harrell, of St.Simons and Brunswick, two brothers, Wallace E. Harrell, III, and wife Ann, of St.Simons Island, and William P. Harrell of Fitzgerald; two nieces, Elizabeth and Laura Ann Harrell, and two nephews, William and Zachary Harrell. Two step brothers also survived him: Richard W. Ivens and wife Lauren of Beaufort, SC, and Webster Hill of St. Simons Island, and a step sister, Lisa Snow and husband Mike of St. Marys.

Memorials may be made to Christ Church, Frederica, St. Mark's Episcopal Church, or St. Simons Christian School.
